Patient Summary
Definition:

A Patient Summary (PS) is a concise clinical document that provides an electronic patient health data set applicable both for unexpected, as well as expected, healthcare contact.
A PS provides a health professional with essential information needed for healthcare coordination and, in case of an unexpected need, for the continuity of care, or when the patient consults an health professional other than his regular contact person (e.g. the general practitioner he/she is registered with).
The epSOS PS does not include a detailed medical history, details on clinical conditions or a full list of all prescriptions and dispensed medicines. It is rather a standardized set of basic health data containing the following information:

  • General Information about the patient (e.g. name, birth date, gender, etc.).
  • A Medical Summary consisting of the most important clinical patient data (e.g. allergies, current medical problems, medical implants, or major surgical procedures during the last six months).
  • A list of the current medication including all prescribed medication that the patient is currently taking.
  • Information about the Patient Summary itself (e.g. when and by whom was the Patient Summary).

Definition:

Pivot document
Definition:

A document whose structure allows for semantic interoperability between the PN. Its structure is based on the data collected from the functional work packages ePrescription and Patient Summary and a commonly used syntax standard. If a PN document is mapped onto this schema it ensures that the meaning of the concept transferred is commonly understood by the other PN. The schema tags are in English. The document structures sections necessary for the data presented such as "Allergies", "Medical problems" etc. It is not making references to the common terminology that will be used throughout the project.

privacy by design
Definition:

Privacy by design refers to the practice of embedding privacy requirements as well as PET in the architecture of a software solution or service. In the case of epSOS, privacy by design is implemented by designing all processes involved in the delivery of services (human as well as technical processes) around a set of 100 legal privacy requirements.

By adopting a long-term privacy by design approach, epSOS intends to build up a greater level of trust, potentially allowing legislation to become a facilitator in the creation of a European information health space.

Projectathon
Definition:epSOS Project Conntectathon

Live one-week event modeled after IHE Connectathons where PNs and industry can test their epSOS implementation(s) in a lab-like setting. This form of testing has proven to speed up the development of interoperability solutions from many months to just a few days.

Pseudonymisation
Definition:

Pseudonymisation is the process of disguising patient identity. In contrast to fully anonimized data, pseudonymisation allows future or additional data to be linked to the current data, whereby the identity of the patient remains undisclosed. Key-coded data is a classical example of pseudonymisation.
